Case History – Upgrade of a TAURUS Customer in Stuttgart, Germany

A long‑standing TAURUS customer based in Stuttgart, Germanyhad been using a TAURUS 672 shear baler, for several years. The machine had proven reliable and efficient, supporting daily processing of mixed scrap, heavy scrap, and demolition material. As the company’s operations expanded, management identified a clear need increasing overall productivitywhile maintaining the same high standards of safety, reliability, and cutting quality.

The 672 had reached its maximum sustainable productivity level relative to the customer’s growing volumes. To keep pace with market demand and optimize logistics, the company set a new production target of 35 tons/hour.

To achieve this goal, the decision was made to upgrade to a more powerful model within the TAURUS family.

The Choice: TAURUS 873

After evaluating several options, the customer selected the TAURUS 873a machine engineered for significantly higher performance and heavy‑duty workloads.

  • cutting forces 800 tons.
  • Compression box 7 metres
  • Cylinders per wing n.3
  • Electric motors

This configuration ensures a significant increase in productivity, especially when processing heterogeneous, bulky, and demolition scrap.

Given the value of the investment and the demanding nature of the material processed, the customer decided to build a dedicated protective structure around the machine. This enclosure protects the shear from:

  • accidental impacts from loaders or excavators
  • falling material during loading
  • exposure to weather conditions
  • long‑term wear of external components

The result is a safer working environment and increased machine durability.
