1964 - TAURUS
The TAURUS was founded as a mechanical engineering company under the name C&G srl, and since the 1960s it has been dedicated to the study, design, development, and production of plants and machines for processing ferrous and non‑ferrous scrap. Giovanni Colombo and Dino Giuliani, the company’s founders, can be considered among Europe’s pioneers and innovators in compression and shearing techniques and technologies applied to metal‑scrap processing machines. TAURUS began its journey by manufacturing mechanical crocodile shears used for the manual cutting of production metal waste.
1970 - NEW TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO SCRAP PROCESSING
In those years, automatic compression and shearing of “scrap iron” was carried out using large, heavy, expensive hydraulic shear presses, suitable only for a limited number of operators. It was in the 1970s that TAURUS took shape the idea to build shears balers less bulky, lighter and easier to handle, but above all with purchase and operating costs accessible to a much broader market — without sacrificing the quality, reliability and safety that have always distinguished TAURUS machines. This radical shift in design philosophy was made possible by the introduction of new and more advanced technologies on the market, as well as by the availability of modern materials featuring high mechanical performance
1980 - THE ORIGINAL SWING‑WING SYSTEM
Further developments, supported by the experience gained over the years and by the collaboration with Peter Beyeler — a technical‑commercial specialist and a keen expert of the sector’s needs and requirements — led, in the late 1980s, to the study and construction of shear presses equipped with a the original "swinging- wing" compression system.
The original system — which today, just as in the past, makes all the difference — allows a significant reduction in scrap pre‑compression times compared to alternative techniques, resulting in a substantial increase in overall production.
The independent movement and the special geometry of the two oscillating lids, hinged to the base of the pre‑compression box of the shear presses, have reduced — compared to other similar systems — the execution times of the compaction and scrap‑preparation operations by more than 30%. These operations are essential to bring the material to dimensions suitable for feeding the shear opening with which the machine is equipped.
The system was patented, and for the commercial promotion of this unprecedented product the TAURUS brand was introduced, soon establishing itself as a synonym for strength and reliability. Since those years and up to today, more than 1,000 shears equipped with a swing‑wing pre‑compression box have been installed under the TAURUS brand, and the name is present wherever scrap needs to be baled or sheared.
1990 - THE PRE-SHREDDER
In 1991, at the request of the French company CFF, a leader in the scrap‑trading sector, TAURUS began the design and production of the Millfeeder (a scrap pre‑shredder intended to feed hammer mills).
In the production of pre‑shredders, with installed power ranging from 400 to 1000 kW, TAURUS is today the undisputed world leader.
Pre‑shredders are machines designed for the coarse fragmentation of loose or baled scrap, preparing it for a subsequent, more effective, economical and safe shredding operation carried out by hammer mills.
At the end of the 1990s, TAURUS expanded its product line with the design and construction of the BRAVO two‑shaft shredders.
2000 - THE INCLINED SHEAR TR
In the early 2000s, the TR continuous‑feed inclined shear became part of the TAURUS product lineup.
2014 - 50° ANNIVERSARY
TAURUS celebrates its 50th year of activity.
2015 – THE REDFINER HAMMER MILL
Following extensive research and long experimentation, TAURUS began the construction of an innovative metal‑refining module. The REDFINER was developed and marketed to separate and recover metallic components from the mix of scrap originating from shredding‑plant residue, collected scrap, and consumer goods in general.
2018 – THE ERA OF TRACK‑MOUNTED SHEAR BALERS
In 2018, the first TAURUS‑brand track‑mounted shear press entered production.
2024 – FOR 60 YEARS, ALWAYS ONE STEP AHEAD!
In 2024, TAURUS celebrates its 60th Anniversary.
2026 – THE NEW PRODUCTION
BLULINE: the stationary HAKA – K – X – R – Q shears, the mobile HIRU and CAT models, and the transportable ELLE
BLACKLINE: continuous‑feed TR‑VHD shears with cutting forces up to 1,800 t
REDLINE: the BRAVO pre‑shredder and the hammer mill REDMILL.
