TAURUS HISTORY

... since 1964, always a step ahead!

1964

TAURUS

TAURUS was founded as a mechanical construction company under the name of C&G srl and since the 1960s has been involved in the study, design, development and production of machines and plants for processing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap. Giovanni Colombo and Dino Giuliani, the founders of the company, were among the forerunners and innovators in Europe of compression and shearing techniques and technologies applied to machines for processing scrap metal. The beginning saw TAURUS engaged in the construction of mechanical crocodile shears used for manual cutting of scrap metal. At that time, the automatic compression and shearing of scrap metal was carried out using hydraulically operated “shear balers” which were bulky, heavy, expensive and intended for only a few users.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO THE PROCESSING OF SCRAP

It was during the 1970´s that TAURUS developed the idea of building “shear balers” less bulky, lighter and easier to handle, while at the same time pricing them to be affordable to a wider market. Despite introducing these ground breaking technologies, TAURUS never compromised on its core philosophy of ensuring quality, reliability and safety as essential factors of every TAURUS machine produced. This radical change in construction trends has been made possible by the introduction of new, more advanced technologies on the market and the availability of up-to-date materials with high mechanical properties.

THE ORIGINAL SWINGING WINGS SYSTEM

Subsequent developments, supported by the experience gained and by the collaboration of the late Mr. Zaier, of the Ferro A.G. company in Baden, Switzerland, a scrap dealer and an expert on the needs and requirements of the sector, led, towards the end of the 1980s, to the study and production of “shear balers” equipped with an original “oscillating wing” compression system. The original system, which today as in the past makes all the difference, allows a significant recovery in scrap pre-compression times compared to alternative techniques, to the benefit of a significant increase in production. The independent movement and the special geometry of the two oscillating wings, hinged to the floor of the pre-compression box of the “shear baler”, have reduced, compared to other similar systems, the time needed to compact the scrap and preparation time by more than 30%, in order to make the material large enough to feed the shear mouth of the machine.

MILLFEEDER AND DELTA

In 1991, under the request of the French company CFF, leader in the scrap trading sector, TAURUS started the design and production of the MILLFEEDER (scrap pre-shredder machine to feed hammer mills).
In the production of MILLFEEDERS, with installed powers from 400 to 1000 kw, today TAURUS is the undisputed leader in the world. The MILLFEEDERS are machines designed for the coarse crushing of scrap metal loose or in bales, in preparation for a subsequent more effective, economical and safe crushing operation with hammer mills.
At the end of the 90’s TAURUS enriched its product line with the design and construction of the DELTA twin-shaft rotary shear.

2000

STUDY AND DESIGN OF THE TR SHEAR

At the beginning of the 2000s, the continuous feeding inclined shear TR joined the TAURUS range of machines.

2010

STUDY AND DESIGN OF THE HAMMERMILL

TAURUS starts to study, design and produce the REDMILL , the (patented) module to crush and separate the scrap. The new module is equipped with a new generation hammer mill, compact, with rotors up to 65″ in diameter and electric motor up to 1500 hp.

50th ANNIVERSARY

In the 50th year of activity, TAURUS has revised, renewed and reorganized the production line:

  • BLULINE , the SBxc shears and balers, the “symbol” product, recognized worldwide, wherever there is scrap to be sheared.
  • REDLINE, the pre-shredder, shredders, refiners and hammer mills, designed to meet the needs of crushing and cleaning of scrap metal;
  • BLACKLINE, the open box shears with continuous feeding.

REDFINER

After in-depth research and a long experimentation, TAURUS starts the construction of an innovative metal refining module.
The REDFINER is developed and marketed to separate and recover metal components from crushing plants scrap, collected scrap and in general from consumer goods.

THE NEW TAURUS PRODUCTION

In 2020 TAURUS enters the new site of Mornago with a renewed and completed line of product:

  • BLULINE with the new fixed shears KAPPA, MILLE, RAPID, GIANT AND QUATTRO, and the transportable CAT and ELLE.
  • BLACKLINE enriches the line of continuous feeding shears with the official presentation of the well-tested TR-VHD with cutting force up to 1800 t.
